The slaying of the Passover lamb pictured Christ’s atoning death on the cross for the sins of the world as Christ’s applied blood causes God’s judgment to pass over sinners and gives life to believers (Romans 6:23).
What I saw missing from my ministry was balance. While it was important for me to be there when someone needed me, it was also important for me to spend time alone with God because I needed Him.
If Easter was the most exciting day of the disciples’ lives, quite likely the ascension was the most exciting day of Jesus’ earthly life. He had finished His mission. There was just one thing. Jesus’ departure opened the door to one great risk: being forgotten.
Abraham loved his son, but he also knew his God. His life was built on the positive side of faith. Knowing deep in his soul that God is a God who provides, Abraham crested that rugged mountain with confidence.
Simon, through the power of the Holy Spirit, was transformed into the man he was created to be. Jesus can do the very same for all of us—untying the death ropes and releasing us to live as He created us to live.
Everyone struggles with some sort of weakness, deprivation, affliction, attack, or test from time to time. Jesus exemplifies how even in the face of such severe circumstances we can stand strong.
Make rest an activity. The commands to Israel about the Sabbath, while not binding, do communicate God’s concern that His people rest.
Teaching about Jesus’ sacrifice for our sin-debt and what it means to live a holy and righteous life is what the ministry of Chuck Swindoll and Insight for Living Canada exists to do. He intended all along to provide a substitute—a stand-in sacrifice that He would accept as payment in full.
Being the Son of God means to possess the nature of, and display the qualities of God. Jesus is the one, only-begotten Son, co-equal, co-eternal with the Father (Colossians 2:9).
